CBD stands for cannabidiol, a phytocannabinoid that occurs naturally in the hemp plant. The body has its own endocannabinoid system (ECS), a network of receptors involved in processes such as sleep, mood and recovery. CBD interacts with this system indirectly, unlike THC, which binds directly to receptors and produces psychoactive effects.
Because CBD has no psychoactive effects, you can use it without it affecting your ability to function. It is usually taken sublingually, as drops under the tongue, which allows for relatively fast absorption through the oral mucosa.
